Lack of sporting opportunities led to a initiative supported by many public bodies resulting in the creation of a number of sports clubs.

Project Description

As the issues highlight above there is a dearth of sporting opportunity for locals of the Manea village. Therefore a Parish Council recreation working groups was formed and a community consultation was held. There was many key factors derived from the consultation:

  • Partnerships were developed with key bodies
  • A process of community funding was established
  • Identified a range of priority sport to develop and…
  • Sports Association development groups were identified to compile development plans.
  • Identified key facilities needed:
  • MUGA
  • Non turf cricket pitch
  • Changing and refreshment areas – suitable for all ages and abilities

A very important factor is that young people of the community were engaged in the planning process.

Project Outcomes

  • Cricket clubs was formed – Compete in Fenland league
  • Netball Club – senior and junior compete in Wisbech league
  • Running club formed
  • Recreational outreach holiday programme with FDC / Cambs Active Sports
  • Dual use with local primary schools.
